Q: How do I store and serve bottle-conditioned beers?

A: All bottle-conditioned beers contain a natural yeast sediment.  Whilst this is completely harmless, to enjoy our beers at their best please follow the simple instructions below:

  1. Store bottles in an upright position.
  2. Place bottles in a cool place, such as a garage or cellar, for a few hours prior to serving.  The ideal serving temperature is approx. 13°C.  (Please note that placing bottles in a fridge is likely to result in a hazy/cloudy beer.)
  3. Remove the crown cap from the bottle carefully using a bottle opener.
  4. Take a pint capacity glass and pour the beer from the bottle in one continuous controlled pouring action.  Aim to leave the sediment in the bottom of the bottle.
  5. Enjoy!

Q: What is a bottle-conditioned beer?

A: Bottle-conditioned beers are the beer world's equivalent of champagne.  At Frog Island Brewery, we bottle natural live beer using a gentle gravity-fed bottling machine.  This produces a naturla product which undergoes a secondary fermentation within the bottle.  The majority of bottled beers are pasteurised, filtered and artifically carbonated during the bottling process.
